Eileen's choice

Bells Pottery

c 1891

There is little information to be found about this pattern, but it may have been a nod to the British colony of Loo Choo (Lew Chew) or Ryukyu Islands, situated between the main Islands of Japan and Taiwan.

They were acquired by the British after the Treaty of Tientsin in 1858 until gaining independence in 1966. I would like to think that the decoration of flowers and sail boats celebrate the vibrancy of the Islands.
