British Ceramics Biennial Generation Project

The Brief

To build relationships around Glasgow and Stoke-on-Trent’s shared clay story.

What we did

We invited young people from the British Ceramic Biennial Generation Project to visit the Art Bothy to learn about Glasgow’s history and heritage of ceramic making and to make some of the first scales for Bella the Beithir. The Generation group worked with local young people from North United Communities in Maryhill and were fed freshly made pizza made by G20 Youth Group ‘al fresco’ in the park. This was the first time that most of the Generations group had been to Scotland let alone Glasgow! For the sherd nerds amongst us, they brought us some historic broken pieces of historic pottery from Stoke potteries as a gift, which was much appreciated.

What we made

  • New chapter in Glasgow and Stoke-on-Trent shared ceramic story

  • 10 scales for Bella the Beithir

  • New knowledge and learning about the UK’s historic ceramic industry
